Welcome to our website!
At 1st Belper all of our members, young and old, enjoy the adventure of scouting by learning new skills, making friends and having fun in a safe, secure environment.
Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout movement way back in 1907, had a vision that Scouting would be a ‘character factory’ that produced young people with ‘the spirit of self-negation, self-discipline, sense of humour, responsibility, helpfulness to others, loyalty and patriotism’.
Challenges in Scouting provide a sense of achievement, create long lasting memories and certainly build and instil character in our members.
Early records are hard to come by but we believe that 1st Belper has been in existence since at least 1927 when we were officially registered by Father Walker, Scout Leader and vicar of Christ Church. The colour of his robes determined the colour of our neckerchief, lilac, and as far as we know, we are the only Scout Group in the country to wear this colour scarf.
We are a very popular group and it is advisable to have your child’s name on our waiting list as soon as possible and we are always looking for new adult volunteers to cope with this ever increasing list !
Please contact us if you want to know any more about joining 1st Belper, either as a young person or as an adult volunteer.
